The Monash Youth Music Festival

Welcome to 2024 MYMF!

The Monash Youth Music Festival is a significant annual music festival held on the lands of the Wurundjeri People in the leafy City of Monash, Victoria Australia. This Festival draws well over a thousand young musicians from all over Melbourne each August to compete in over forty events including Ensemble and Choral competitions, solo competitions and non-competitive music events.

Musicians new to competitions and eisteddfods can enjoy the thrill of performing in front of a warm and appreciative live audience in our non-competitive “Mini Recital” sections. We make it very easy for novice solo instrumentalists and vocalists to perform accompanied with our talented Accompanist!

VCE Music students can also benefit greatly by taking part in the VCE Recitals sections - to perform in front of an audience and to receive valuable feedback from highly qualified adjudicators.

The Festival keeps growing each year with events now spreading over a three week period. Scroll down to see our Festival Events Diary below or click the image on the right ►.

This year we are excited to introduce a Guzheng competition for the very first time, and we may indeed be the first eisteddfod in Australia to do so! It will also be a unique competition in that the Adjudicator will be proficient in Jianpu, or Cypher notation. Go to our Schedule page for more information!

Congratulations to the 1671 young musicians who participated in the 2023 MYMF - to the 474 soloists, the 492 instrumentalists who performed in 37 amazing ensembles and the 705 choristers who sang in 20 magnificent choirs! It was indeed a fabulous musical feast.
